Falling in love

by Michael Melosh

Falling in love is a wond'rous thing.
You feel you can fly,
Your heart doth sing.

All day long you do feel cheery.
No longer does ev'rything
Seem so dreary.

And when the love is not returned
You feel such pain
Like you've been burned.

Then you wish to hide yourself,
To sit alone again
Beside yourself.

This self-imposed solitude
Does not replace
Much needed quietude.

You've been beaten but not broken
The pain you feel
Can't be spoken.

You rise again
To meet the challenge:
To love again.
