Throughout its history, RASSM has been home to various factions which were created by its posters. These factions have helped define RASSM and only add to its zaniness.

Apologists

The Apologists are individuals who have nothing but positive things to say about The Phantom Menace and feel that Lucas is as brilliant as ever. They first "appeared" on RASSM after the premiere of The Phantom Menace and have been debating Naysayers since.

Factions Directory

Chopomatics

During the early days of the Heretics, a small group split from them and formed the Chopomatics. The Chopomatics were followers of Aunt Beru and got their name from her lettuce grinder. Unfortunately, the Chopomatics never gained the popularity as some of the other factions and pretty much disappeared after a month. However, every now and then a "Hail Beru" post will show up on RASSM.

DVD Crusaders

DVD Crusaders are fans who are continually calling for Lucasfilm to release the Star Wars films on DVD. Many of them feel that Lucas is stalling on the DVD release so that he may make as much money as possible off VHS releases.

Factions Directory

Fans of the Can

Members of the Fans of the Can are the loyal followers of R2-D2. Fans of the Can members believe that Artoo is the true hero of the Galactic Civil War and that he does not get the proper credit for all he has done. Unlike the Gonkites, the Fans of the Can are peaceful in their actions and have never gone to war with any of the other factions.

Factions Directory

Gonkites

The Gonkites are well known for their undying loyalty to Gonk, the powerdroid which resembles a walking trashcan. They believe that Gonk is responsible for the destruction of both Death Stars and Jabba's Sail Barge and that it is also their lord and saviour. Their mortal enemy is the Heretics and they are barely on speaking terms with the Lobot Fan Base. There have been two Gonk Wars between the Gonkites and the Heretics with both ending in a truce. As a group, very little has been heard from the Gonkites since late 1996/early 1997. However, there are still a few Gonkites which are active on the group and keep the message of Gonk alive. For further information on the Gonkites and the Gonk War, visit the History Archive.

Gungan Mafia

The Gungan Mafia, led by Boss Jedah, first appeared in late 2000. Their hatred of the Porkinites led to the Gungan-Porkinite War which developed into Sith War VII. More about the Gungan Mafia can be found here.

Factions Directory

Heretics

The Heretics, as mentioned previously, are the mortal enemies of the Gonkites. It is their belief that Gonk is merely a powerdroid that has absolutely no effect on the outcome of the Galactic Civil War. The Heretics took their name from the Gonkites claiming that all anti-Gonk speech was heresy. In recent times, the Heretics have been heard from even less than the Gonkites. However, their message is far from forgotten as it has become part of the Lobot Fan Base philosophy.

James Trory Fan Club

James Trory, leader of the Heretics, made peace with the Gonkites and brought about the end of the Gonk Wars. Shortly thereafter, the James Trory Fan Club was born. The JTFC's claim to fame is its participation in Sith Wars I-V and Trory's appearance on British TV to talk about the JTFC and his exploits on RASSM in December 1996. However, James Trory no longer actively participates on RASSM and his fan club has all but dissolved. A transcript of the interview which took place on "cyber.cafe" can be found here.

Factions Directory

Lobot Fan Base

The Lobot Fan Base was started by Ted Ehlers in 1997 as a reaction against the various other fan groups which existed on and off the internet. Members of the LFB do not believe that Lobot had any impact on the Galactic Civil War, but they do think he is extremely funky and is a good cook. Also, LFB members have a superiority complex about themselves which rivals even that of that Gonkites. The periodic activity of the LFB depends upon the attention span of RASSM divided by the dislike of Gonk times the sum of all known funk. For further information on the LFB, please visit Lobot's International House of Funk.

Naysayers

The Naysayers, like the Apologists, first "appeared" after the premiere of The Phantom Menace. However, unlike the Apologists, the Naysayers cannot find anything positive to say about The Phantom Menace and, for the most part, feel that Lucas has lost his magic touch.

Official RASSM Cool People

Rich Handley began the ORCP in the beginning of 1997 as a joke. The joke eventually grew into a small movement as more and more people were nominated to be part of the ORCP. However, during the spring of 1997, the ORCP came under fire for being elitist. Since the joke had obviously went too far for some, Rich did the only thing he could do and disbanded the ORCP.

Factions Directory

ORCP Elite

As the ORCP grew in size, some members of the ORCP felt they should be members of an even more exclusive group of cool people. Hence, the formation of the ORCP Elite. According to some sources, the ORCP Elite members had a fetish for wearing the armor of the Emperor's Royal Guard while they read RASSM. The ORCP Elite was disbanded at the same time as the ORCP.

Factions Directory

Porkinites

The Porkinites believe that Jek Porkins, Red 6 during the Battle of Yavin, is the force behind the destruction of the Death Star. The Porkinites are enemies of the Gungan Mafia and seek to rid the RASS System of their presence.

Shaven Wookies

While the Shaven Wookie phenomenon was not created on RASSM, it was created by two of its regular posters, usher & Chris Hawkins. Unlike the other factions, the Shaven Wookies are not a fan club and they do not require anyone to swear allegiance to them as if they were some pseudo-deity. usher & Chris Hawkins are the only two individuals which the Shaven Wookies allow to speak on their behalf, but the Shaven Wookies usually are very direct and don't require their assistance when it comes to making a point. Also, the Shaven Wookies have participated in Sith Wars III and IV, and have affected the outcome of each one in their own special way. For more information about the history of the Shaven Wookies and the Shaven Wookie phenomenon, please visit Shaven Wookie, Ltd.
